HMFA Announces New Energy Programs For Multifamily Housing (cont.)

Seminar participants learned about the HMFA’s Multifamily Energy Efficiency Improvement, Solar Funding, and Weatherization Assistance programs at detailed information sessions. These programs are designed for owners of multifamily properties of five or more housing units that have or are about to get a primary mortgage with the HMFA. The programs will work in conjunction with other energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives offered through the DCA, HMFA, and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ (BPU) NJ Clean Energy Program in order to achieve a maximum level of impact.

“Eligible participants will receive a whole-building energy audit, technical assistance and help in applying for financial incentives,” said HMFA Executive Director Marge Della Vecchia. “These programs are a fantastic way to finance what are often expensive energy improvements, and we’re hopeful that multifamily property developers, owners and managers will take advantage of them. We want to make it easier for people to save energy and save money.”

Applicants of the HMFA programs must participate in the New Jersey Pay for Performance Program, which is offered through the BPU’s Office of Clean Energy. Seminar attendees got information about the Pay for Performance Program, which helps large building owners reduce their energy consumption, as well as the DCA’s Weatherization Assistance Program and PSE&G’s multifamily subsidy and loan program. The event also featured a Pay for Performance fair where participants could speak with professionals about how to take a whole-building approach to saving energy and earn incentives linked to those savings.

“Seminar participants have a unique opportunity with these programs,” said Mary Sheehy, Green Homes Administrator. “Governor Corzine’s economic recovery proposals, including these HMFA programs, can help New Jersey residents and businesses save on their energy bills, reduce their carbon footprint and create jobs for our people.”
