HARRISON SCHOOL CAREER DAY EVENT

On Wednesday, March 18, Dana Irlbacher of the Single Family Division, Francis Thomas of Contract Administration, and Jim Peasco of Regulatory Affairs represented HMFA at Harrison Elementary School’s Career Day event.  The event’s theme, “Our Community of Careers,” emphasized the program’s focus on careers the students come into regular contact with, but may not have a familiarity with as to how they impact their daily lives.  Among the other participants were a dentist, lawyer, firefighter, artist, musician, police officer, soldier and veterinarian.

In 1997, HMFA officially adopted the Harrison School, a K-5 school located only a few blocks away on Genesee Street.  Dana, Francis and Jim, each of whom also participates in the Reading Buddy program at the School, were, upon their arrival at the School, first presented with boutonnieres and then escorted to their respective classrooms by student volunteers.  They then spoke to students in kindergarten and the first, third, fourth and fifth grades about their careers, including the skills and education necessary for success.  The students were knowledgeable and interested in the classroom presentations, frequently asking questions of the presenters.
